Cougars Taste Australian Open Success

1 Jul 2021 by David Ferguson

A number of our Cougars travelled to the Gold Coast for the 2021 Australian Open. These events are regarded as some of the toughest events to win considering the number of games to win, numerous days in-between games, different venues & greens. Cougars, Adam Charlton, Mason Lewis, Briana Graham, Dan Scanlan, Anne Johns, Greg Helm, Callum Murray, Chris Keep, Mark Robinson, Samantha & David Ferguson all competing. A number of them achieving personal bests in the event with the majority of our players qualifying in every main draw. To top things off, 3 players Anne Johns, Samantha Ferguson & David Ferguson came away with an Australian title.

David Ferguson teamed with Ray Pearce, Aaron Hewson & Ben Twist claiming the 2021 Australian Open Men’s Fours Title. David’s team survived a very hard draw throughout which included an extra end win versus international team lead by Garry Kelly and continued the good form in a dominate performance in the final against the defending Australian Open Champions winning 18 – 3.

Samantha Ferguson, Anne Johns & Engadine marquee player Kelsey Cottrell teamed with Lynsey Clarke to win the Australia Open Ladies Fours title. the ladies also had a hard road through the early rounds, but hit their straps in the semi final with a massive win. The final was an absolute cracker with the girls in yellow prevailing holding their nerve to secure an Australian title.

Congratulations to all of our players, GO THE COUGARS!!!!
